Here at DDC Outsourcing Solutions UK (DDC OS), we are always looking at ways to improve our internal processes, and like many companies ahead of the introduction of the GDPR, we implemented a number of transformational changes.

The new regulation of course, not only applies to digital data but also physical data. As a company that offers warehouse storage to our clients as part of a larger digitisation project, we have vast amounts of physical documents, some containing personal identifiable data (PID).

Our warehouse space was originally spread across two locations, Worksop and Tuxford. Our property portfolio review led to the suggestion that we rationalise to one site. The idea would be to actually increase the overall capacity by looking at a new racking configuration at the Worksop site. The capacity was around 8,800 boxes but this investment would increase the capacity to 14,500 boxes.

Prior to implementing the new system, we reduced the number of boxes currently in storage by applying all of the new regulations. Further optimising our storage facility.

Check out this time-lapse video of the new racking being installed.

To summarise we consolidated two sites into one whilst increasing our capacity by around 48%. This all came from an audit ahead of the GDPR, turning regulation into opportunity. We further reduced our regulatory risk by consolidating to one site.
